Ten years into the UKanQuit program, The University of Kansas Hospital and the University of Kansas Medical Center have jointly worked to help more than 12,000 patients quit smoking.
"These clinical trials find that if someone who smokes goes into a hospital and gets some kind of treatment for their tobacco use, they're more likely to quit," said Kimber Richter, director of UKanQuit at KU Med. "It really improves their odds of quitting by quite a bit."
