Durham-based Baebies Inc. received a nod from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday when it permitted marketing of the company’s Seeker System for the screening of several rare disorders in newborns.
The disorders – known as LSDs or Lysosomal Storage Disorders – can lead to organ damage and can be fatal, according to the FDA. They impact the normal functioning of proteins that clear substances from the body’s cells that shouldn’t be there.
