As Western State Hospital faces the possibility of losing its federal certification, and with it millions in federal funding, officials are rushing to put the final touches on hospital improvements before inspectors arrive.
Over the last few months, the hospital has hired 388 more people and made "thousands" of improvements in "patient care, staff and patient safety and our physical plant," CEO Cheryl Strange said during a press conference Tuesday with Gov. Jay Inslee after he toured the facility.
