When it comes to high risk trauma, rural patients face larger barriers to accessing care than their urban counterparts, according to a new study from the Oregon Health & Science University.
The study, published Wednesday in JAMA Surgical, found that only 29 percent of critical trauma patients in rural areas were taken to a major trauma center. In comparison, 89 percent of patients in urban areas went directly to a level I or II trauma center.
